title: "{uptime}"
description: How long the stream has been live.
---

```text
{uptime}            the channel the message came from
{uptime:login}      another channel - see "Which channel?" below
```

**Platforms:** Twitch and Kick - reads the channel the message came from; name a channel to read the other.

The time since the stream went live, like `2h 15m`, on Twitch or Kick.
`offline` when the channel isn't live.

## Examples

```text
!uptime   →  {channel} has been live for {uptime}
!live     →  {if:{uptime}==offline|We're offline - back soon!|Live for {uptime} and going strong 💪}
!friend   →  My friend has been live for {uptime:somechannel} - go say hi!
```

## Which channel?

Without an argument, the variable reads the channel the message was typed in: in your Kick chat it reads your Kick channel, in your Twitch chat your Twitch channel. The argument picks another:

```text
{uptime:login}          that channel, on the same platform as the message
{uptime:twitch}         your Twitch channel (from either chat)
{uptime:kick}           your Kick channel (from either chat)
{uptime:twitch:login}   a Twitch channel by login
{uptime:kick:slug}      a Kick channel by slug (the name in its URL)
```

Timers have no "message platform" - they use the platform they're posting in, so a timer that posts in both chats reads each channel for its own post.

## Notes

- Refreshes about every 30 seconds.
- `{uptime:{touser}}` works: `!uptime @friend` reports on whoever was
  mentioned.
